This Health Talk aims to address the emerging issues in food safety associated with tech-driven food production.
The global food system is under strong adverse impact from climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to the increasing pressure for higher food production. At the same time, tech-driven food production is emerging and may include new ways of farming, new food sources, and better integration of the food system towards a zero-waste circular economy. As an integral part of food and nutrition security, food safety needs to be enhanced with new parameters. In particular, a more proactive approach is needed to identify and manage potential food safety risks around these tech-driven efforts, while promoting new innovations.
The panel will include key international experts from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Codex Alimentarius, and the pioneer of cultured meat which is part of alternative proteins.
